Walt is primarly a plein air painter, but does not exclude making minor adjustments in the studio in order to improve the design, drawing, and brush work.He uses his own version of the traditional Gloucester easel, paint box, palette, panel carriers, palette cups, and umbrella support. He carries Masonite panels in sizes from 12×16 to 24×30 as he scouts Berkshire county Ma for subject matter in his van.

The 20×24 panel he is working on is in a rabbited frame that holds 2 panels face to face, retained by rotating levers around the edge, a design used by his mentor Maurice Kennedy in the 60’s. Reversing the painted panel completely protects it from damage during travel.
